Covid 19 Procedures

To all of our friends, followers, and passengers,

First of all, we hope you are both physically & mentally staying healthy. Though we are not medical professionals, it is important to know we are thinking of your well-being as we start off our ballooning season in the very near future.

Fortunately, hot air balloons are not large gathering places. We want you to feel safe when you are flying with Midwest Balloon Rides. So as a result, With Covid-19 in mind, we are adding procedures this season in the best interest of our passengers and our team.

Below you will find our procedures for both flights & tethers, we may change these procedures if we learn of new ways to make your time with us safer!

Thank you for your continued trust in Midwest Balloon Rides as we work our way through these circumstances with your wellbeing in mind.

See you in the sky soon!

Anthony Sandlin & the Midwest Team

2020 Balloon Season Procedures – Flights

With Covid-19 in mind, we are adding safety procedures this season to protect our passengers and our team.

  • The Midwest Balloon Rides team will be checked prior to each flight to ensure they are healthy
  • The chase vehicle will be cleaned with hospital grade disinfectant prior to each flight
  • The basket will be cleaned with hospital grade disinfectant prior to each flight
  • Upon request, the chase team will wear a mask while in the vehicle with you and during loading and unloading of passengers in and out of the basket
  • If desired, we will have a mask for you during your time with us or you can bring your own
  • We will carry hand sanitizer with us in the chase vehicle to use before & after the flight
  • During our traditional post-flight celebration, the team will wear protective gloves when serving beverages

Additional Things to know:

  • In the chase van from the meeting location to the launch site and from the landing spot, you will be in the chase van with the Midwest Balloon Rides team (and other passengers if doing a shared ride) You WILL have your own bench seat in the van, so only your party will be sitting next to you
  • While waiting to get into the basket and after the fight please keep social distance from our team, other passengers and any spectators who show up
  • When you get into and out of the basket and just prior to launching, the chase team may need to be within 6 feet of you for a few minutes
  • The pilot will be within 6 feet of you and your party during the flight; there is no way to avoid this!

We will have you sign this procedure sheet upon arrival, this is in addition to our normal waiver.

If you have a special request please ASK PRIOR to the day of your flight! If not asked prior to the day of request we might not be able to honor your request.

2020 Balloon Season Procedures – Tethers

With Covid-19 in mind, we are adding safety procedures this season to protect our passengers and our team.

  • While in line we can keep passengers waiting to fly social distance apart
  • Passenger groups of 4 or more will be just them and the pilot on board
  • *For groups of 3 or less, there will be other passengers in the basket (up to 6 total)
  • The Midwest Balloon Rides team will be checked prior to each tether to ensure they are healthy
  • The basket will be cleaned with hospital-grade disinfectant prior to tether start time upon arrival at the location
  • During passenger switching the top of the basket will be cleaned (this is what people hold on to)
  • Upon request, the team will wear a mask during loading and unloading of passengers getting in and out of the basket
  • We will have hand sanitizer present for passengers to use before and after their ride
  • *We may be able to do group of 3 or less in the basket for late rate or private party tethers, but this would decrease the number of passengers we can take up per hour. Please ask about this prior to event.

If you have a special request please ASK PRIOR to the day of your event! If not asked prior to the day of request we might not be able to honor your request.
